Design of a pilot plant for biodiesel production

By considering the importance of producing biodiesel using locally available feedstock materials, Dept. of Chemical & Process Engineering of UOM has started a project to evaluate its feasibility and to develop it to pilot-scale. This project was started 3 years back in lab-scale and now it has completed most of its pilot-scale studies. The research team has conducted most of their experiments using rubber seed oil (RSO); which is one of the highest FFA containing oil.  Read more

Chemical and Process Engineering

Chemical engineering is the engineering discipline which focuses on converting raw materials to finished products. This is done through the use of various processes. Process engineering is about designing, optimizing and maintaining these processes Chemical and process engineering is applied in various fields such as petrochemical, mineral processing, advanced material, food, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological industries as well as energy and environmental engineering solutions

Chemical and process engineering is one of the few engineering fields that is truly multi-disciplinary, in terms of the fundamental sciences, namely, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. Because of this Chemical and Process engineers are able to work in a variety of different industries all over the world.
